Rain's story
On March 21st 2012 Rain was diagnosed with Lyphoma. He is now 11 years and 3 months old. We are trying desperately to fight this cancer in any way we can. I want to personally thank everyone who is helping me with this fight. I never realized how many friends I had in the dog world that are willing to step up and lend a hand or just be the shoulder to cry on. :0) Rain is my heart dog we have tackled many battles together and he has always been there for me it is now up to me to return the favor. I love you Rain with all my heart and I promise I will try to always keep you comfortable and I will never let you suffer.
Pictures below were taken the day before diagnoses as you can see the Lyphoma does not seem to bother him at all he still acts like a 2 year old. He did get his first hotspot on his butt we shaved it and now it is healed it just needs to grow hair. He also had a touch of yeast between his back legs but that is also healing. We suspect his immune system is taking a big hit from the cancer so our main focus right now is to build it back up.
Day 1 & 2 Still the tears are falling and although I am heart broken I am trying to fight back the tears and stay focused for my boy. He truly knows my feelings and watching him go from a bouncing happy boy to laying at my feet watching me cry has really made me think I need to get a grip and start fighting. Obviously feeling sorry for myself is not going to help him. I have to accept this and it is not fair to him to spend his last few months worrying about his mother. As of right now Rain is not in any pain he is taking Prednisone and Zenniquin. Soon with the help of our dearest friend and vet Dr. Higgins he will also be on Chinese Herbs and possibly a few acupuncture treatments. So far we are supplementing him with Spirulina and will be adding quite a few supplements to his raw diet in the very near future. I will be taking pictures of him weekly so without a doubt this page will load slowly. I will try very hard to keep a daily record of him not only to help others but for myself I have never dealt with cancer in my dogs and if I ever have to go through this again I will know what to expect. I have to admit I gave him extra food, a handful of potato chips, some of my chinese food, all of the fortune cookies (hoping he will take all the good luck) and he now has about 30 stuffed animals to kill :0) Today was a happy day for him for sure. I bet he is wondering why mom is being so nice he actually looks at me with a big smile on his face like really all this for me???
3/27/2012 = Well we have managed to make it through the week without falling apart :) Rain is still not showing any signs of discomfort still eating, playing and pottying like a champ. Our Chinese herbs came in yesterday so now he is on Stasis Breaker, Wei Qi Booster and Spirulina. He is off the prednisone which made him pee so much this boy has never pee'd in my house and he made 3 mistakes poor baby :0( The swelling has gone down in his glands but they are still there. I guess I was hoping for a miracle but at least they are not getting bigger. I will talk to the vet today and see if it will be a good idea to add kelp and a probiotic. Prayers are working thank you so much everyone :0)
